The Chicken Ramp

The Chicken Ramp is a backyard mini ramp built right next to a chicken coup. For me and many others new to the sport, The Chicken Ramp hatched a newfound love for skateboarding and the community that surrounds it.

I wanted to celebrate this place and its impact on Savannah’s skateboarding community, as well as inspire new skaters into the fold. So, I crafted a brand identity, designed event posters, made merchandise, and got our story into Whalebone Magazine.

Logo design / brand design / writing / apparel design

The logo mimics the movement of skateboarders and the edges of a cracked eggshell. Just as skaters have their own style of skating, the logo can show up in unique configurations.

The dense thicket of magnolias and palmettos that surround the ramp are a main feature we wanted to bring into the merchandise and brand elements. Bleach dyed tees mimic the light streaming through the canopy. Old film photos taken at the ramp ground the merchandise in a sense of place.

To shed light on this special community and encourage readers to start their own, I wrote a story that featured an interview with the duo that started it all. You can read it on Whalebone Mag’s website.
